In central Western Europe, several studies have shown that colder Holocene periods, such as the Little Ice Age, also correspond to wet periods. However, in mountain areas which are highly sensitive to erosion processes and where precipitation events can be localized, past evolution of hydrological activity might be more complicated. To assess these past hydrological changes, a paleolimnological approach was applied on a 13.4-m-long sediment core taken in alpine Lake Anterne (2063 m asl) and representing the last 3.5 ka. Lake sedimentation is mainly composed of flood deposits triggered by precipitation events. Sedimentological and geochemical analyses show that floods were more frequent during cold periods while high-intensity flood events occurred preferentially during warmer periods. In mild temperature conditions, both flood patterns are present. This underlines the complex relationship between flood hazards and climatic change in mountain areas. During the warmer and/or dryer times of the end of Iron Age and the Roman Period, both the frequency and intensity of floods increased. This is interpreted as an effect of human-induced clearing for grazing activities and reveals that anthropogenic interferences must be taken into account when reconstructing climatic signals from natural archives. 相似文献

An incomplete skull (SMNS 12352) from the Norian (Late Triassic), found at the same locality (Pfaffenhofen, Germany) as Procompsognathus triassicus, has previously been attributed to either a theropod or a crocodylomorph. The specimen is partially embedded in matrix and, therefore, was CT scanned so that the concealed portion could be visualized and a 3D model could be printed by means of rapid prototyping. Mainly based on the separation between the nasal and the antorbital fossa, the skull likely pertains to an indeterminate basal crocodylomorph (non-Crocodyliformes), which is, however, distinct from Saltoposuchus connectens. 相似文献

In this proceeding I present recent works dealing with magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations describing resistive accretion disks continuously launching large-scale, self-collimated MHD jets. In particular, I discuss the physical conditions required to produce these outflows and the related numerical issues. As an illustration I also present axisymmetric MHD numerical simulations of such accretion-ejection engines, demonstrating the mechanism controlling these flows. 相似文献

In this contribution, we first review the theory of self-collimated jets launched from magnetized accretion disks (disk-winds originating from the first AUs). We show why it is crucial to solve in a self-consistent way the interplay between the resistive accretion disk and the ideal MHD jets. Indeed, this is the only way to get exact values for the disk ejection efficiency ξ (the jet mass load issue). Then, we show self-similar calculations of such accretion-ejection structures: first cold jets, then warm jets obtained in the presence of a hot disk chromosphere. The climates of the mid-Holocene (MH), 6,000 years ago, and of the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), 21,000 years ago, have extensively been simulated, in particular in the framework of the Palaeoclimate Modelling Intercomparion Project. These periods are well documented by paleo-records, which can be used for evaluating model results for climates different from the present one. Here, we present new simulations of the MH and the LGM climates obtained with the IPSL_CM5A model and compare them to our previous results obtained with the IPSL_CM4 model. Compared to IPSL_CM4, IPSL_CM5A includes two new features: the interactive representation of the plant phenology and marine biogeochemistry. But one of the most important differences between these models is the latitudinal resolution and vertical domain of their atmospheric component, which have been improved in IPSL_CM5A and results in a better representation of the mid-latitude jet-streams. The Asian monsoon’s representation is also substantially improved. The global average mean annual temperature simulated for the pre-industrial (PI) period is colder in IPSL_CM5A than in IPSL_CM4 but their climate sensitivity to a CO2 doubling is similar. Here we show that these differences in the simulated PI climate have an impact on the simulated MH and LGM climatic anomalies. The larger cooling response to LGM boundary conditions in IPSL_CM5A appears to be mainly due to differences between the PMIP3 and PMIP2 boundary conditions, as shown by a short wave radiative forcing/feedback analysis based on a simplified perturbation method. It is found that the sensitivity computed from the LGM climate is lower than that computed from 2 × CO2 simulations, confirming previous studies based on different models. For the MH, the Asian monsoon, stronger in the IPSL_CM5A PI simulation, is also more sensitive to the insolation changes. The African monsoon is also further amplified in IPSL_CM5A due to the impact of the interactive phenology. Finally the changes in variability for both models and for MH and LGM are presented taking the example of the El-Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO), which is very different in the PI simulations. ENSO variability is damped in both model versions at the MH, whereas inconsistent responses are found between the two versions for the LGM. Part 2 of this paper examines whether these differences between IPSL_CM4 and IPSL_CM5A can be distinguished when comparing those results to palaeo-climatic reconstructions and investigates new approaches for model-data comparisons made possible by the inclusion of new components in IPSL_CM5A. 相似文献

We present the first-ever simulations of non-ideal magnetohydrodynamical (MHD) stellar winds coupled with disc-driven jets
where the resistive and viscous accretion disc is self-consistently described. The transmagnetosonic, collimated MHD outflows
are investigated numerically using the VAC code. Our simulations show that the inner outflow is accelerated from the central
object hot corona thanks to both the thermal pressure and the Lorentz force. In our framework, the thermal acceleration is
sustained by the heating produced by the dissipated magnetic energy due to the turbulence. Conversely, the outflow launched
from the resistive accretion disc is mainly accelerated by the magneto-centrifugal force. We also show that when a dense inner
stellar wind occurs, the resulting disc-driven jet have a different structure, namely a magnetic structure where poloidal
magnetic field lines are more inclined because of the pressure caused by the stellar wind. This modification leads to both
an enhanced mass ejection rate in the disc-driven jet and a larger radial extension which is in better agreement with the

Ferrihydrite (Fh) is a short-range ordered nanocrystalline iron(III) (oxyhydr)oxide that has been recognized to play an important role in contaminant sequestration and in iron cycling in geological and biological systems. Despite intensive research for the two last decades, the structure of Fh is still a subject of debate. In the present study, we report extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy data collected on a large set of ferrihydrites and model compounds samples including especially nano-crystalline maghemite (Mh), goethite (Gt), and akaganeite (Aka). This set of EXAFS data recorded at cryogenic temperature over a wide energy range allows us to precisely determine the Fe-O mean distance (〈Fe-O〉) in the first coordination shell of iron for this large set of iron (oxyhydr)oxides. Our EXAFS analysis includes both classical shell-by-shell fits of Fourier-filtered and unfiltered data as well as analysis of Fe-O distance distribution in the first coordination shell of iron using the Landweber iteration method. 〈Fe-O〉 determined by these complementary EXAFS analyses are similar: 〈Fe-O〉 is shorter in Mh (1.96 ± 0.01 Å) that contains 37.5% of tetrahedral iron, than in Gt (2.01 ± 0.01 Å), Aka (2.00 ± 0.01 Å) and hematite (Hm) (2.01 ± 0.01 Å) that do not contain tetrahedral iron. 〈Fe-O〉 for the five Fh samples investigated (1.97 ± 0.01 Å) was found to be slightly longer than in Mh and significantly shorter than those in Gt, Aka and Hm. This short 〈Fe-O〉 distance in Fh indicates the presence of significant amount of tetrahedrally coordinated iron(III) in all Fh samples studied, which ranges between 20 ± 5% and 30 ± 5% of total iron. In addition, our analysis of Fe-Fe distances observed by EXAFS is consistent with a Keggin-like motif at a local scale (∼5 Å) in the Fh structure. 相似文献

Spores of coprophilous fungi, especially Sporormiella, are often well preserved in lake sediment cores. It has been hypothesized that such spores can be used to quantify past livestock abundance. The quantitative relationship between fungal spore abundance and livestock populations, however, is not well established, nor are the mechanisms of spore transport and deposition in lacustrine systems. Multiple cores from Lake Allos, a large high-elevation lake in the French Alps, were used to map the modern abundance of Sordaria and Sporormiella spores throughout the lake. We observed high spatial heterogeneity with respect to spore numbers. No correlation with the distance from shoreline was found. There was, however, a relation with distance from the two main lake inlets. These results were used to select two fungi-rich sediment cores to investigate grazing pressure over the last two centuries. Comparisons were made between spore influx and historic data on livestock densities in the catchment. A sharp decrease in Sporormiella influx ca. 1894–1895 was associated with a reported reduction in sheep in the Allos catchment at that time. Mean influx of Sporormiella decreased by a factor of three between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, reflecting a reduction in the reported number of animals in the Lake Allos catchment, from 6,000 to 2,000. This study confirmed that Sporormiella spore abundance in lake sediments can be used as a proxy for catchment herbivore numbers in paleoecological reconstructions. Nevertheless, our data indicate that before spore accumulation can be used to infer past domestic herbivore density, one must understand the processes of coprophilous spore transfer from the catchment to the lake and the influence of core location on spore numbers in the sediment. 相似文献

Petrochronology of magmatic monazite and apatite from a single paragneiss leucosome derived by in situ partial melting documents the thermal evolution of the Allochthonous Belt of the central Grenville Province. Monazite records suprasolidus metamorphism from ca. 1080 to 1020 Ma under high temperature up to 850°C. Apatite from the same leucosome yields an age of 960 Ma, consistent with cooling of this crustal segment down to subsolidus conditions of ca. 450°C. A pegmatitic granite dyke, with lobate contacts, previously dated at ca. 1005 Ma (Turlin et al., 2017 ) is interpreted to intrude the paragneisses at a temperature of ca. 650°C close to the wet‐solidus. These data document slow cooling at a rate of 2–6°C/Ma for the middle crust of this part of the Grenville hinterland marked by protracted suprasolidus conditions for at least 70 Ma. It supports the definition of the Grenville Orogen as a large, hot, long‐duration orogen. 相似文献

The Connecticut Valley–Gaspé (CVG) trough represents a major, orogen-scale Silurian–Devonian basin of the Northern Appalachians. From Gaspé Peninsula to southern New England, the CVG trough has experienced a contrasting metamorphic and structural evolution during the Acadian orogeny. Along its strike, the CVG trough is characterized by increasing strain and polyphase structures, and by variations in the intensity of regional metamorphism and contrasting abundance of c. 390–370 Ma granitic intrusions. In southern Quebec and northern Vermont, a series of NW–SE transects across the CVG trough have been studied in order to better understand these along-strike variations. Detailed structural analyses, combined with phase equilibria modelling, Raman spectrometry, and muscovite 40Ar/39Ar dating highlight a progressive and incremental deformation involving south–north variation in the timing of metamorphism. Deformation evolves from a D1 crustal thickening event which originates in Vermont and progresses to southern Québec where it peaked at 0.6 GPa/380°C at c. 375 Ma. This was followed by a D2 event associated with continuous burial in Vermont from 378 to 355 Ma, which produced peak metamorphic conditions of 0.85 GPa/380°C and exhumation in Quebec from 368 to 360 Ma. The D3 compressional exhumation event also evolved from south to north from 345 to 335 Ma. D1 to D3 deformation events form part of a continuum with an along-strike propagation rate of ~50 km/Ma During D1, the burial depth varied by more than 15 km between southern Quebec and Vermont, and this can be attributed to the occurrence of a major crustal indenter, the Bronson Hill Arc massif, in the New England segment of the Acadian collision zone. 相似文献
